Hitt Street Parking Structure

Hitt Street Parking Structure
University of Missouri Campus, MO

Hollis + Miller Architects completed Design/Build guidelines for the Hitt Street Parking Structure at the University of Missouri-Columbia.  The design of the six level parking garage on this sloping site maximizes the use of existing topography for access to the structure and provides positive drainage away from the structure wherever possible.  The University’s paramount concern was that the parking garage reflects the college Gothic theme set by the “white campus” older buildings.  This was achieved by careful detailing and appropriate use of materials.  Vertical elements are accentuated, playing down the horizontal nature of a typical parking structure.  Columns are pulled out beyond the face of the spandrel panels to create strong vertical elements which begin with a heavier base and culminate as a softened spire.
