Heartland Middle School
Edmond, OK

The Edmond School District has had an advancing enrollment for the past decade. Building a new middle school was a necessity to accommodate this growing student population. This new middle school was master planned for 1,200; 6th, 7th and 8th graders. The facility will share the site with a new elementary school that will form a campus approach to learning. The new middle school will include safe and secure entry’s, student commons and unique student collaboration areas, as well as a wonderful two story “Learning Stair” that allows students opportunities for assembly and presentation space. The school will also boast a dynamic media center with integrated computer labs and interactive technology. For students physical education, the building will have a competition gymnasium for different indoor sports activates that is also available for community use. A practice gymnasium is also available for student activities that will double as a safe room that is sized for the building occupancy in the event of a security or weather emergency. The campus grounds of the middle school will include an educational courtyard, outdoor amphitheater as well as competition baseball and softball fields, practice amenities for track, football and even tennis. This building project is certainly a model for educational endeavors as well as a show piece for one of Oklahoma’s largest school districts.
