Garnett Elementary School

Garnett Elementary School
Garnett, KS

The new Garnett Elementary School will consolidate two outdated buildings into one new home.  The expansion s sized to hold a 500-student population of grades K-6 and has also been accommodated on site to house a future pre-K program. By dividing the building into two zones, the district can close down the classroom wing while still using the public spaces for events after hours.  A centralized tower-like entry is flanked on either side by the administration area and media center.   A full size gymnasium will accommodate district activities and a stage that is visible from both the commons area and the gymnasium will provide opportunities for small presentations.  Across the link, students are divided into three neighborhoods where eight classrooms surround a communal activity space. Special education is provided at a centralized location for better integration of students and also serves as a high wind shelter for the entire building.
