Little Blue Elementary School

Little Blue Elementary School
Raytown, MO

Little Blue Elementary School is located on a very compact and challenging site surrounded by a heavily wooded area.  All of the academic classrooms, media center, and art room are located along the North side of the building (taking advantage of Northern light and views to the woods.)  What is notable about the building design is that it is a very compact, two-story building with a tremendous amount of natural daylight filling the media center and entry foyer at the building’s center. To encourage personalization, the 550-student population is broken into three neighborhoods each with its own personalized entry and a flexible learning space in the core.

The compact design has minimal site impact, oriented east to west, incorporates daylight, and utilizes a ground source heat pump system which truly reflects energy-conscience, responsible-, and educationally-driven design.
