Madison Place Elementary School

Madison Place Elementary School
Olathe , KS

In designing Madison Place Elementary, we met with department heads who provided input from principals and teachers from the previous elementary designs.
From here we synthesized information from each of the groups to create a new feel – an enhanced intimate teaching culture.

This building project was the leader in the district in identifying all sustainable design components that could be incorporated in this school and a part of new designs in the future.  As a result, the next iteration of this design is being evaluated for LEED certification and will be submitted next year.

The school orientation is set up with all the clerestory facing North – an energy efficiency feature helping to minimize solar heat gain.  Because the site didn’t present many constraints, it allowed the team to get the best operational results and solar orientation.

The media center is a hub in the design and has multiple (function and way finding).   There was an enhanced focus on adding daylight in greater ways in multiple spaces, including:  the media center, primary classrooms, and public gathering spaces. (gym, corridor, dining, etc.)
