A Tradition Focused on the Future

Don Hollis, Bob Hollis and Dave Miller started a tradition that remains focused on the future. Just before World War II, brothers Don and Bob attended Kansas State University together. During that time they both enlisted in the Navy. While Don went into the Sea-Bee Construction Program, Bob enlisted in the Flight arm of the Navy. After WWII, Bob got additional schooling at USC and worked for a California engineering consulting firm while Don established Donald R. Hollis Architects in 1950. It was when the firm was awarded the Shawnee Mission Meadowbrook Junior High School project that Don convinced Bob to move back to Overland

The Brothers Continue to Build on Quality

As Engineering Partner and Designer of over 500 projects in the next 27 years, Bob applied thoroughness and common sense to every project. Recognizing that building design is never really done, he was particularly interested in checking out his design concepts as H+M's clients settled into their buildings. Dave Miller joined the firm in 1955, and in 1959, Donald R. Hollis Architects became Hollis & Miller Architects and Engineers. Miller became Chairman of the Board in 1982. That same year, Gene Davis took over as President. Sadly, Don Hollis perished in a plane crash in 1971. His spirit and legacy remains strong at Hollis & Miller.

Bob Hollis took a well-earned retirement in 1982. On December 1 of that year, Hollis & Miller Architects and Engineers became The Hollis & Miller Group, Architects and Engineers, Inc. through the combination of Hollis & Miller and the architectural firm of Roberts & Wisniewski. Dave Miller joined Bob in retirement in 1987.

Hollis + Miller Architects - the Legacy Grows

John Wisniewski continues as President of Hollis + Miller Architects. Under his leadership and that of Partners Kirk Horner, John Southard, John Brown and Ed Alexander, the company maintains a tradition of quality, service and diligence to serving clients. Some of those clients have been with Hollis + Miller from the beginning. We strive for the best because of them... and for the clients yet to come. They are all part of our "Tradition Focused on the Future".
